How It Works

Last Followed uses publicly available Instagram data to show you who someone has recently followed and who has recently followed them. Simply enter any public Instagram username and our system retrieves their latest follower activity within seconds. No Instagram login is required from you or anyone else — the entire process is anonymous and untraceable.

Our platform also offers real-time notifications. Once you set up tracking on an account, you can receive instant SMS or email alerts whenever new follow activity is detected. This means you stay informed without having to manually check back. All notification data is encrypted and delivered only to you.

Technical Transparency

Last Followed accesses only publicly available data that Instagram itself publishes on its web interface. Public profile pages display follower and following relationships without requiring authentication — our service retrieves that public information, normalises it into a time-ordered list, and presents the result. No special permission, OAuth grant, or Instagram API key is required to read this data, because Instagram already makes it public.

Because nothing authenticates as the searcher on Instagram's side, the tracked account has no way to know a lookup occurred. Instagram's internal notifications (such as Story view alerts) only fire on authenticated interactions — profile page data retrieval generates none. This is a passive, read-only process from start to finish.

Data & Security

We collect the minimum data required to run the service: your email (if you create an account), the accounts you subscribe to, your notification preferences, and billing metadata from Stripe. We never store Instagram passwords, advertising cookies, or any data we don't strictly need.

All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS and enforced via HSTS with a 2-year max-age. Payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified provider — card details never touch our servers. Notification data (SMS through Twilio, email) is delivered over encrypted channels and purged after delivery.

You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing info@lastfollowed.com. Under GDPR we respond within 30 calendar days.

Legal Basis

Last Followed operates on the principle that data published publicly on the open web can be read without additional authorisation from the publisher. This interpretation was reinforced in hiQ Labs v. LinkedIn (9th Cir., 2022), which held that accessing publicly available web data does not violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Users are responsible for how they use the information our service surfaces. Last Followed is provided for informational purposes only. Using the data to harass, intimidate, or harm any person violates our Terms of Service and may violate local law.

What We Don't Do

We don't require an Instagram login from you. We don't interact with the target account in any way Instagram can detect. We don't sell or share your data with advertisers. We don't use tracking cookies for advertising. We don't follow, like, view stories, send messages, or make requests on your behalf. We don't access private accounts or content behind Instagram's authentication barrier.

Our Commitment to Privacy

Privacy is the foundation of everything we build. We never require an Instagram login, we never store personal browsing data, and we never share your search history with anyone. All payment processing is handled through Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment provider trusted by millions of businesses worldwide.

The person whose account you search will never be notified. There are no traces, no follow requests, and no interactions with their account. Your identity remains completely hidden at every step of the process.
